A bit about myself
Greetings & Welcome to this new blog,
Let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm a Torah observant follower of Yeshua. What this means, I follow the laws of the old testament and I believe in Yeshua (Jesus).
I grew up in the Lutheran/Methodist realm until I started confirmation classes. I was having to split my time between the Lutheran church and the methodist church. One Sunday, I was fed up with the games that I was having to play.
I asked the confirmation class teacher at the Lutheran church on a Sunday morning, if we are supposed to believe in the same God, then why so many churches? What is the difference? I was told just to listen to the sermon and watch what is done, you'll see.
The next Sunday, I was at my home Methodist church. I asked him the same thing, I was told the same thing. At this point, I was disgusted. Didn't they know what they believed or taught?
I went home & threw all of my confirmation books away. I told my grandmother, I'm done, I'm done playing games, I'm tired of my questions not being answered and I'm sure as hell tired of my prayers being answered. I yelled.....why would God allow me to be treated like a piece of property instead of a child with feelings & thoughts? Why would God allow a child to be constantly told, what you have to say doesn't matter & to be constantly treated harshly.
I turned aethiest that day. I was only 13. I had 2 bibles that had been given to me. I didn't toss them but I put them on the bottom shelf of my book shelf so I didn't have to see them on a consisten basis.
I went into a very dark time in my life. I drank, I did things I shouldn't. I had a couple of boyfriends. One took me to his senior prom. His classmates were spiking the punch with Everclear, he didn't tell me. He thought it was hilarious how drunk I was getting. We broke up a couple of weeks later.
July 20, 1986, my grandmother and her live in boyfriend had left for day. I was sitting out on the front porch, reading & watching the world go by. Even tho it was July, the day wasn't too hot or too cold, it was a perfect summer day. A friend I had met when I was out riding my bicycle stopped by, as we were talking, a guy in a rusty orange car came zipping down the street. He went down to the corner, did a u turn & came back to park under the Maple street that provided shade to most of the yard. My friend knew him. I walked thru the yard in my stocking feet and sat down on the curb. His name was Tom & he was handsome. My heart was beating very fast, I tried to make sure I made coherent sentences.
Somehow the conversation went over to motorcycles and Tom went home to get his motorcycle to take me for a ride. We got about a mile out of town & something "happened" to his motorcycle & we had to head back to his place to fix it. He let me go into his bachelor pad, he had a very snooty bassett hound that went out the back door when I walked in. I looked on his kitchen table and saw a magazine called the Plain Truth magazine. My grandfather had gotten it for years when he was alive.
Reading that magazine started my feet back on the path of going back to God. I immediately did a 180 and started believing in God again. He took me home about an hour later. I walked past my grandmother who was sitting on the front porch with a stern look who asked where I was. I simply said with a new friend.
I went upstairs to my room and got one of my bibles off the shelf. And I started reading, I haven't stopped.
He asked me to marry him the next evening. We were married 22 months later. We attended the Worldwide Church of God until 1999. We were in the Intercontinental Church of God for 4 years until the death of Garner Ted Armstrong. In a splinter group for a year but they didn't like what we were saying, so we left. In 2005, we went independent and our spiritual knowledge grew by leaps and bounds. We listened to Avi Ben Mordechai, Nehemia Gordon, Michael Rood, Eddie Chumney and Brad Scott.
In 2005, we started observing New moons & changed the way we did Passover. I'll be going more into depth about these in later articles.
My husband passed from cancer almost 3 years ago. He loved Sabbath, he loved the festivals & new moons. Its hard to enjoy these days since he is no longer here but I try. I go to a local bible study group on Sabbath sometimes. I like to study by myself sometimes. I learn more that way.
Some of the articles that will be coming will be scripture based, talking about Passover, New Moons, when the festivals are & all the manmade traditions that are part of the Hebrew roots movement. And many more topics, there are 66 books in the bible, lots to cover.
Until next time,
Lori
